UN Declaration of human rights Essay Example For Students
UN Declaration of human rights Essay I am not going to argue that we are born with human rights given to us by a higher power. I do not believe this is true as so many people around the world are stripped of their rights almost daily. I do believe that we need to adhere to and respect human rights without discrimination in order to advance as a species which brings me to the declaration of human rights drawn up by the United Nations. As said by Human Rights activist Shulamith Koenig Human Rights are the banks of the river within which life can flow in freedom and dignity. Does the U. I believe the UN plays an extremely important role in todays society and therefore does hold value. As the nations of the world increase their interdependence of one another there will be an increasing need for a multinational body to act as peacekeepers, protectors negotiators WITHOUT becoming world police. The key to the UNs power is that it is made up of 99% of the worlds governments. The actions and motivations of the UN are firmly based on their Declaration of human rights which is the first document to receive multinational support for laying down the rights believed to be owed to each and every human being. Human Rights is an issue that has gained much public notice over the last 60 years, mainly starting with the end of world war 2. This is because many of the world problems can be largely traced back to human rights abuses and their reactions. This creates a need for a globally accessible document even though many countries embrace some articles while disregarding others. It also acts as a benchmark Why doesnt the UN take more action against countries violating Human Rights? As I mentioned earlier, the UN cannot act as world police as this would be stating that the world can operate under one legal system. Additionally the declaration is not a treaty and has no legal backing. We are made up of a planet of diverse cultures and beliefs which need to be respected and at times suppresses the ability of the UN to act. Often the UN can do little more than to provide aid to the oppressed. In some countries where the majority of its citizens are oppressed, war is the only option for a change in power but to wage war might only plunge the country and its occupants deeper into a state of injustice chaos. The UN does not have the resources to take military action and then maintain a peace keeping force for years after to see through the transitions in power. The media is an industry that the UN needs assistance from in its struggle for human rights. As stated in the Charter, Article 1- The UN aims to achieve international cooperation in promoting encouraging respect for human rights without distinction. However mainstream news sources seem engrossed with covering certain issues relative to their entertainment value while neglecting the many crisiss around the globe e.g. the iraq war, while hardly touching on other issues such as the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. further more, for example should the UN embark on a campaign enforcing their perceived rights around the globe, will this not betray its own beliefs of freedom of thought? I will end by saying that although many believe the UN is losing its effectiveness as an organisation but times require it takes a more passive role. Although world peace may never be a reality it is a goal that should alway be persued. .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 , .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .postImageUrl , .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 , .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:hover , .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:visited , .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:active { border:0!important; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:active , .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75 .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6387b4e711e358c94e6e8c01da485e75:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: American Revolutionary War 2 EssayAs quoted by Kofi Annan The united nations exists, not as a static memorial to the aspirations of an earlier age, but as a work in progress- imperfect, as all human endeavours must be, but capable of adaption improvement .

Discussion Question 1 Week 7 Example
Discussion Question 1 Week 7 Example Discussion Question 1 Week 7 ââ¬â Coursework Example Mathematics (Discussion Question week 7) Systems of equations can be solved by graphing, using substitution, or elimination. What are the pros and cons of each method? Which method do you like best? Why?Systems of equations can be solved either by using the method of elimination, by substitution or through graphing or by a combination of more than one of these methods. In the process of elimination, the terms appearing in the equation are rearranged so as to gather like terms together, i.e. those in which the same unknown constant or variable appears (to the same power). This shows which terms can then be combined to produce a single simplified term or else eliminated altogether, and it should make the equation easier to solve. In the process of substitution, another variable is temporarily introduced into the equation. Usually, this is to represent a complex expression or to help transform the equation into another type, again to make it easier to solve. These two methods of elimina tion and substitution are algebraic methods. Alternatively, the equation, which may still need to be simplified first, can be graphed to enable the required values to be read or determined visually.Elimination is usually the simplest and quickest of the three methods and it suffices in many cases to solve any system of equation. In some complex cases however, it may not be clear whether elimination can even be made or not and this process alone becomes insufficient to solve the equations. Substitution can be seen as a relatively more complex procedure because of the use of an additional variable. This method requires extra decision making and steps to not only equate the new variable with an expression involving one or more of the original variables, but also to reconvert back to find the values of the original variables. Besides, it would be unnecessary if the equation is simple and for which the elimination method can be used instead. However, it has the potential advantage of bei ng a convenient method to quickly make the system of equations appear to be easier to handle in which the new substituted variable(s) has been used.Graphical methods make the task easier to understand visually. Although it may not always be possible to obtain a precise answer depending on the type of equation and its roots, as long as the graph has been constructed correctly, it does enable at least a good estimate to be obtained. This may not be immediately possible with the algebraic methods in which there are no visual cues so it is useful for quickly ensuring the solution is reasonable. In some cases, as with quadratic equations, it can show whether a solution is even possible i.e. whether the roots do or do not exist. Similarly, simultaneous equations can be checked for whether the lines do actually intercept and thus the approximate values can be determined for the coordinates where they cross, or it can be seen whether they are parallel, in which case it can be seen that no s olution exists. No method would be best in all circumstances so the type of equations determines which method should be used. Generally, the complexity of the equations is the main factor. Personally, I like elimination for its ability to simplify, I see substitution as a useful technique in those cases where it can be applied effectively, and graphing as useful in cases where a visual depiction can help in solving the equations.

Special Ed - Essay Example Therefore, it is the familyââ¬â¢s responsibility to send disabled children to school. The article points out that, both teachers and families should have a cordial relationship to enhance the success of the child (Arlene 29). The article highlights five successful strategies applied when dealing with students with disabilities. It focuses on the issues that an individual needs to recognize about children with special needs while working with their families. One is that teachers should recognize the studentââ¬â¢s strengths; what they do easily despite being disabled. Families should be engaged in the studentââ¬â¢s learning process as they offer to the teacher information related to their child. They assist the teacher in recognizing the studentsââ¬â¢ needs and learn how to handle the child at home. As they work with the families, the teacher recognizes the dislikes and accomplishment of the student. The family also gives vital information on the cultural background and health-related issues of the student. In the process, respect between the families and the teacher is established (Arlene 30). There are several ideas mentioned in this article that I will adapt for my Jewish synagogue program. One is the close relationship between the families and teachers; it is a strategy that is effective for the Jewish Synagogue program. The knowledge of handling students with disabilities is also a vital idea for the program. Another important idea is that of directly involving families in the learning process. Encouraging them to come to school regularly and follow up their childââ¬â¢s performance in the Synagogue Program. In addition, the idea of researching on particular disabilities of children in my class is applicable for the Jewish program (Arlene

The Security Professional and their role in Emergency, Disaster and Essay
The Security Professional and their role in Emergency, Disaster and Contingency Planning - Essay Example It also explains the measures and techniques that the security professional use to handle different emergencies or disasters. An emergency refers to an unforeseen combination of circumstances whose resulting states of nature require immediate attention and actions. An emergency may be serious to the extent that if no immediate attention is provided, it can result to crucial and fatal situations. A contingency, on the other hand, refers to an event that has the possibility of either occurring or not occurring in the future as predicted. A disaster can occur if people live near hazardous areas like unstable slopes where landslides are most likely to happen active volcanoes or close to rivers that are likely to burst and flood any minute. Introduction Security professionals are a group of low voltage contractors, individuals, or firms that specialize in the installation of security systems (Fischer, 2008). These systems are installed either at homes, offices, business premises, military camps, or even sport centers and clubs. Security professional also engage in maintenance and servicing of the security systems installed at any given destination. The different types of security systems include fire alarms, burglar alarms, 24 hour emergency service, access control, internet and cellular monitoring, closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems, 24 hour UL monitoring system, home theatres and outdoor intrusion detectors. Security professionals ensure that they provide the necessary security system for all destinations. For example, in providing for home security, there are different systems that can be provided and they include fire alarm notification and detection, medical emergency notification, intrusion detection and carbon monoxide detection (Fischer, 2008). The installation of home security is vital for any home because it provides 24 hour security to an individualââ¬â¢s loved ones especially when one is absent. This is because it aids in watching o ver oneââ¬â¢s valuable possessions while absent from the house at any given time of day. This kind of protection is necessary since it reduces chances of burglary and intrusion. To aid in home security, also available are both wireless and hard wired systems that have a battery backup which keeps the homes protected even if power goes off. Security camera systems and video surveillance have gained popularity in protecting business areas like banks and other retail stores. Security cameras and videos have aided in improving security of these facilities because they tend to attract huge numbers of people that frequent their premises on a daily account. Security professionals have also had an upper hand in improving security in travel depots like air strips, shipping and port security, and the road transport security. Air port security is of utmost importance because a lot of people travel by plane. Security professionals seek to ensure that no passengers board the plane with prohib ited items that could cause a plane hijack or a staged bomb. This is done by ensuring that items like knives, pen knives, fire arms, scissors, box cutters, inflammable objects and other sharp objects are confiscated upon discovery at the checking points (Fischer, 2008). In road transport mainly operated by the buses, action plans are

Candys dog Essay Example for Free
Candys dog Essay In Section three of ââ¬Å"Of Mice and Menâ⬠we come to a significant part of the story where Carlson shoots Candyââ¬â¢s dog. From previous sections in the book, Steinbeck has made it evident that Candyââ¬â¢s dog is important to Candy. When we are first introduced to Candy and his dog, Steinbeck repeatedly describes both characters as ââ¬Å"oldâ⬠, showing how alike both are. ââ¬Å"Old Candy, the swamper, came in and went to his bunk, and behind him struggled his old dog. â⬠In this sentence, the adjective used to describe both characters is ââ¬Å"oldâ⬠. This suggests the similarity between them, showing that they are both reaching nearer to the end of their life. While Slim, George, Candy and his dog are in the bunk house, Carlson comes in and talks to Slim. He then complains about the smell of the dog. ââ¬Å"God awmighty that dog stinks. Get him outta here, Candy! â⬠Carlson makes it clear that he doesnââ¬â¢t like the dog being in the bunk house as it brings a foul smell with it. But when Candy hears Carlson say this, he reaches over to pat his dog as if it is fully aware of what is being said. This action evinces that Candy is apologising to the dog on Carlsonââ¬â¢s behalf. Candy treats his dog like a human as his dog is his only companion. However, the workers at the ranch see him only as a dog. When Carlson mentions to Candy about shooting his dog, Candyââ¬â¢s actions and dialogues convey how Candy feels about this idea. ââ¬Å"Candy looked about unhappily. ââ¬ËNo,ââ¬â¢ he said softly. ââ¬ËNo, I couldnââ¬â¢t do that. I had him too long. ââ¬â¢ Candy is reluctant to let Carlson shoot his dog and we know this through the use of the adverb ââ¬Å"unhappilyâ⬠. Candy words make it evident that he is not ready to lose his only company. Candy purposefully tries to delay Carlson when he says, ââ¬Å"You ainââ¬â¢t got no gun. â⬠He is hopeful that Carlson doesnââ¬â¢t have the necessary items to kill Candyââ¬â¢s dog with. When the men hear the shot that marks the death of Candyââ¬â¢s dog, Candyââ¬â¢s reaction towards the death of his dog illustrates his emotions. ââ¬Å"For a moment he continued to stare at the ceiling. Then he rolled slowly over and faced the wall and lay silent. â⬠This action symbolises an act of rejecting the outside world. Candyââ¬â¢s dog was his only way of staying happy. But now that his dog has been shot, he has nothing else in the world that is worth living for. During this conversation between Carlson and Candy, George interrupts. ââ¬Å"George said, ââ¬ËI seen a guy in Weed that had an Airedale could herd sheep. Learned it from the other dogs. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ George tries divert Carlsonââ¬â¢s attention to a different topic. This indicates that George is attempting to assist Candy in saving his dog. George is being empathetic towards Candy as he might understand how Candy will feel when he loses his only companion. He is taking into account otherââ¬â¢s feelings before his own. We see this previously in the book where George stands up for Lennie when Curley threatens him. Georgeââ¬â¢s only companion is Lennie and he has travelled with Lennie in search of work for a very long time. George may be the only person who realises how difficult it will be for Candy if he found himself alone after a very long time. As Carlson continuously encourages Candy to let him shoot Candyââ¬â¢s dog, Carlson turns to Slim for support. He asks Slim, ââ¬Å"I bet Slim would give you one of his pups to raise up, wouldnââ¬â¢t you, Slim? â⬠From previous descriptions in the book, the audience is aware that Slim is an influential character in the novel. Steinbeck makes a direct judgement about him unlike he does with the other characters in the book. Steinbeck describes him as ââ¬Å"Majesticâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Prince of the ranchâ⬠. Nearing the death of Candyââ¬â¢s dog, Steinbeck once again shows us the importance of Slimââ¬â¢s character at the ranch when Carlson asks for Slimââ¬â¢s opinion on the matter. When Slim agrees with Carlson that Candyââ¬â¢s dog should be shot Candy lookââ¬â¢s helplessly at Slim: ââ¬Å"Candy looked helplessly at him, for Slimââ¬â¢s opinions were law. â⬠Steinbeck yet again directly informs the reader that Slimââ¬â¢s opinions are not taken lightly but seriously by the men on the ranch. It is clear that the men on the ranch constantly have respect for Slim and they do as Slim says. What is type I hypersensitivity? Type I hypersensitivity is also called immediate or anaphylactic hypersensitivity. The reaction may include skin, eyes, nasopharynx, bronchopulmonary tissues and gastrointestinal tract. Hypersensitivity may cause a variety of symptoms from minor health problems to death. The reaction usually takes 15 - 30 minutes from the time of exposure to the antigen, although sometimes it may have a delayed onset from 10 - 12 hours. (#1) Immediate hypersensitivity is mediated by IgE and the primary cellular factor is the mast cell or basophil. The reaction is intensified or modified by platelets, neutrophils and eosinophils. While the mechanism of this reaction is involved in favored production of IgE in response to certain antigens. Some people are more susceptible to type I hypersensitivity then others and the precise mechanism is not known. However, it has been shown that such individuals preferentially produce more of TH2 cells that secrete IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 which in turn favor IgE class switch. IgE has very high affinity for its receptor (Fcà µ; CD23) on mast cells and basophils. (#1) A succeeding exposure to the same allergen can cause the cross links of the cell-bound IgE and activates the release of numerous pharmacologically active substances. Cross-linking of IgE Fc-receptor is imperative in mast cell activating; mast cell degranulation is followedby increased Ca2+ influx, which is a crucial process; ionophores which increase cytoplasmic Ca2+ also promote degranulation, while agents that deplete cytoplasmic Ca2+ suppress degranulation. Mast cells may be activated by other stimuli such as exercise, emotional stress, anaphylotoxins. These reactions, mediated by agents without IgE-allergen interacti... ...nclude T lymphocytes and monocytes or macrophages. Cytotoxic T cells cause direct damage while helper T cells secrete cytokines which activate cytotoxic T cells that recruit, activate monocytes and macrophages, which cause the bulk of the damage.(#1) The delayed hypersensitivity lacerations mainly contain monocytes and some T cells. Major lymphokines involved in delayed hypersensitivity reaction include monocyte chemotactic factor, interleukin-2, interferon-gamma, TNF alpha/beta, etc. (#1) Analytical tests in type IV hypersensitivity include delayed cutaneous reaction and patch test. In vitro tests for delayed hypersensitivity include mitogenic response, lympho-cytotoxicity and IL-2 production. Corticosteroids and other immunosuppressive agents are used in treatment. The diseases associated with type IV hypersensitivity are tuberculin test, poison ivy and granuloma.
